The great thing about Twitter is that you only have to read what you want to, as it just gives you the headlines. The information also comes to you, so you are only receiving information that you want to receive.

If you don't like the source - kill it, and it's instantly removed.

Twitter can be a great time saver to give you the information when you want it and how you want it.

We publish all of our Blog feeds to Twitter so that you can simply browse the headlines and only visit the page if you like what you see.

7. Focus of the month - Sharpen The Saw

Stephen R. Covey in his book, ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’, tells the story of a person approaching a woodcutter hard at work, sweating, trying to cut down a big tree. The passer-by sees how hard the woodcutter is working and asks why he doesn’t pause to sharpen the saw, as it seems quite blunt. To which end the woodcutter replies: ‘I can’t, I am too busy sawing…’

Every once in a while we should stop and think about where we are going and whether we are doing the right thing. If you are fortunate this is sometimes forced upon you by unforeseen circumstances.

This happened to me recently. Google made an update to its algorithm, quite cutely named it Penguin, and removed my website from the face of the earth.

I went from a top ranking site on Mind Maps to nowhere. My traffic was affected, my sales were affected and my morale was affected. After all, I didn’t think I was a spammer. In fact, I felt that I am actually doing my best to provide my audience with knowledge and education based on my experience and passion for Mind Mapping. Alas, Google did not feel the same way. After welling in sorrow for a while, I decided to relook at my vision and my purpose. I used the Hedgehog Concept as described in the book ‘Good to Great’ to brainstorm where I would like to go.

Naturally, I created a Mind Map to explore my passions, my expertise and the ability to make money with my passion and my expertise. Once again, Mind Maps didn’t let me down! I now have a focused plan that will work with, or without, Google. Putting all your eggs in one basket is never a good thing. I now have a diversified plan for the next six months that will put me in a better position than I am now and give better information and service to you, my audience.

My suggestion to you is therefore to brainstorm your abilities using the headings, passion, expertise and monetization. It is where the three intersect that your success lies. Use a Mind Map, or Mind Maps and see what you come up with. You could amaze yourself and those around you. I know, I did!
